Profile

One of the most visible fansubbing organizations of the VHS tape-trading era, active from 1989 to 1995, known for extremely prolific output over polish. A documented 1996 release list confirms coverage far beyond Ranma 1/2, including Sailor Moon S and SS plus the S movie, Miracle Girls, The Irresponsible Captain Tyler, Hime-chan's Ribbon, Red Riding Hood Cha-Cha, Heavy Metal L-Gaim, Heaven Wars Shurato, Nurse Angel Ririka SOS, and early episodes of Double Zeta Gundam. Arctic Animation's own archived long tape catalogue does list Dragon Ball Z Cell volumes 1-4 and U.S. television volumes 1-2. The existence of those catalogue entries is now documented, but independent Arctic-authored English subtitles and specific episode numbers are not.

Primary-source catalogue update (2001 archived Arctic homepage): Arctic's original fanlong.txt offers VHS material for AnimeHistory series BASTARD!!, Video Girl Ai, Gundam Wing, Yu Yu Hakusho, Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, plus a Macross Plus movie edition. These are catalogued distribution offerings. Titles, episode counts or group subtitle-production attribution must not be inferred beyond what individual records say. Other catalogue titles do not create records for anime outside this archive.

Signature style

Amiga Genlock subtitling, yellow block fonts, physical VHS/LaserDisc tape distribution. Extraordinarily prolific for a pre-internet operation, over a thousand episodes, movies, and OVAs across their run, confirmed via a 1996 release list covering titles from Sailor Moon to Double Zeta Gundam.

BASTARD!! (1992 OVA)

6 / 6 eps · VHS · Arctic's own long fan-subtitled inventory lists BA-0001 'bastard episodes #1-4' and BA-0002 'bastard episode2 #4-6'. Together the descriptions cover OVA episodes 1-6, although the second listing overlaps at episode 4 and may contain a typo. 'Complete' refers to the offered six-episode collection, NOT original Arctic subtitle authorship. AXIS-script production and other distribution credits are separate. Arctic Animation first-party long fansub catalogue (fanlong.txt), linked from its GeoCities homepage captured 2001-04-19. This is an Arctic tape INVENTORY/OFFERING, not proof that Arctic personally translated, mastered or subtitled every listed tape.

Dragon Ball Z

? / 291 eps · VHS · Arctic's original catalogue lists DB-0021 to DB-0024 'dragonball z cell vol.1-4', plus DE-0001/0002 'dragonball z us tv vol.1/2'. These are documented catalogue offerings, but episode ranges, subtitle language and source edition of the Cell volumes are unspecified; the 'US TV' volumes could be dubbed commercial broadcasts. ZERO independent Arctic-produced English-subtitled DBZ episodes are confirmed by this source. No count or completeness inferred. Edition/language/source remain unresolved. Arctic Animation first-party long fansub catalogue (fanlong.txt), linked from its GeoCities homepage captured 2001-04-19. Patlabor: The TV Series

? / 47 eps · VHS · Arctic Animation listed a completed 16-tape Patlabor P-series project by May 1994. The set MIXED the 47 TV episodes with the 16 Patlabor: The New Files OVAs, commonly one OVA and roughly three TV episodes per tape. This is not a stand-alone 47-episode TV-only release. A collector inventory credits Arctic for P1-P16, Peas and Karot distributing P1-P10 and Alex Shay distributing P11-P16. Exact independent subtitling coverage and mastering dates per TV episode remain unverified. See the 1994/1995 Fan Subtitlers Lists and My Puny Fansub Collection.

Sailor Moon

VHS · Arctic first-party catalogue cross-check (2001 homepage / long fansub list): Sailor Moon R #85-89 marked 'Sub'; S episode listings include 96-97, 100, 102-104, 109-110; SuperS 'vol. 2' and 'vol. 10' marked fansub; Stars 167-170 and 171-174 marked 'Sub'. It also lists an S movie, other mixed episodes, and US TV volumes (the US TV volumes should not be treated as subtitled originals). This substantiates catalogue OFFERING, not Arctic's independent production of every subtitled episode, nor complete TV coverage. No distinct episode count inferred.
