Groups / [Ranma Project]
Ranma Project
Amiga or Macintosh genlock overlay subtitling, among the first groups to use the hardware for this purpose at all.
Profile
Widely documented as the first coordinated anime subtitling effort in North America to achieve real national distribution, founded in May 1989 to subtitle Ranma ½. Screened at AnimeCon '91, its tapes are credited with kicking off the entire organized fansub scene, going from zero groups to roughly four in the stretch between the Project's founding and AnimeCon '91, then to fifteen within about two years. The group covered the first two seasons of Ranma ½ plus some Maison Ikkoku before winding down by January 1992.
