Mayuri experiments on everything including his own subordinates including his own lieutenant. Genuinely horrifying to be around and invaluable to have on your side, which is the specific calculation Soul Society has made about him. His fights are the most conceptually creative in the series because he approaches combat as an applied science problem with variables to be controlled rather than an exchange of force. The show lets him be exactly as monstrous as he is and uses it.
