The younger brother. Warm, uncomplicated, the quiet emotional center of the Miyagusuku family. Riku's arc in Blood+ is the show at its most deliberately painful. What the series does with him is not accidental and it is not casual. He is used to draw the sharpest possible line about what this conflict costs at the most personal scale, and Blood+ does not soften it or look away from what it has done. His presence in the early episodes matters specifically because of where it goes.

Riku is the least guarded member of the Miyagusuku family. His warmth with Saya and Kai helps make the early Okinawa life feel like something that could continue indefinitely.

That safety is why what happens to him lands so hard. Blood+ does not use Riku only as a plot casualty. It first makes him part of the emotional shape of home.

A Chevalier is not created by an ordinary Chiropteran bite. The transformation happens when a human receives a Queen's blood and survives.
Blood+ shows this through people rather than presenting one ceremonial rule. Saya gives Haji her blood after his fatal fall at the Zoo. Much later, she uses her blood to save Riku after Diva leaves him near death.

What changed
The person survives, but survival permanently places them inside the Queens' bloodline conflict. That is why becoming a Chevalier is never just a power-up.
Diva drains Riku badly enough that he will die without intervention. Saya gives him her blood and saves his life, turning him into her second Chevalier.

Saya's Chevalier line is no longer only Haji and ancient history. The rule enters the Miyagusuku family in the present, where nobody experiences it as an abstract piece of lore.
