Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid · Supporting / ARX-7 Arbalest AI

Al's relationship with Sosuke becomes central in The Second Raid because the Arbalest's Lambda Driver only works when the pilot can align intent, confidence and imagination strongly enough to use it. Sosuke blames the machine whenever that connection fails, while Al keeps asking questions that sound increasingly less like diagnostic software and more like a partner trying to understand him. Clouseau's training match exposes the problem clearly: Sosuke does not trust the Arbalest, and therefore does not trust Al either. After the crisis with Kaname and Gauron forces Sosuke to reconsider what he wants, he finally stops treating the machine as defective equipment. The change is visible immediately. Al responds, the Lambda Driver works and the Arbalest becomes an extension of Sosuke rather than something he is fighting against.

AI System: "Al" (Artificial Intelligence)

Autonomous Tactical Co-Pilot · Voice-Activated Support Open →
Installed inside the ARX-7 Arbalest, Al is an advanced military artificial intelligence capable of autonomous combat analysis, tactical recommendation, and maintaining conversational dialogue with the pilot. Al monitors the Arbalest's thermal limits and Lambda Driver synchronization in real-time, acting as a second crew member inside the cramped cockpit.

ARX-7 Arbalest Heat Dissipation

Thermal Venting · 200-Second Operational Limit Open →
Because the Arbalest is a prototype frame retrofitted with a Lambda Driver, activating the system generates extreme internal thermal stress. The unit must open its shoulder and back radiator cooling fins to vent superheated steam. Sustained use past 200 seconds risks total mechanical meltdown.
