His world is permanently flipped upside down when he is effortlessly passed on the downhill by an old tofu delivery car, igniting an unsparing, obsessive competitive fire to refine his wild lines into a weapon capable of matching the Ghost of Akina.

Keisuke is the first person in the series to learn that the AE86's threat is not the car's reputation. It is the driver using every part of Akina better than he does.

The Breakdown
Takumi is simply coming home from a tofu delivery, while Keisuke experiences the pass as a direct attack on everything he thinks he understands about the local road. That mismatch creates the mystery that drives the opening arc.

The Breakdown
Keisuke's FD has the performance advantage he expects, but Takumi's years on Akina let him carry speed through the linked downhill corners with less wasted motion. At the five consecutive hairpins, the gutter run gives Takumi a line Keisuke is not prepared to answer.

Why it matters
The first joke of Initial D is also its first character point. Everybody else understands what Takumi can do before Takumi understands why anybody cares.
Bunta's bargain puts Takumi into the RedSuns challenge on behalf of Akina.
What changed
Takumi is no longer fast only because he wants to finish work. For the first time, other racers are watching him perform the thing they have spent years deliberately trying to learn.
