Quatre is the heir to the wealthy Winner family, pilot of Gundam Sandrock and probably the person most naturally inclined to believe the five Gundam pilots should actually cooperate with one another. He is gentle, empathetic and openly uncomfortable with killing, which makes the fact that he is very good at war more interesting rather than less. The Maganac Corps follows him out of genuine loyalty, not because he needs to throw his family name around. Quatre also has an unusual sensitivity to the emotions of people around him, something Gundam Wing occasionally pushes almost into intuition. He is not simply the nice one. Loss can break his restraint, and Wing Zero gives him one of his darkest stretches. What brings him back is the same thing that defines him at his best: connection to other people.

Quatre's time in Wing Zero matters because the show gives the ZERO System first to the pilot least defined by bloodlust or cruelty. His breakdown demonstrates that the danger is not a character flaw unique to unstable people. The machine itself pressures the pilot toward totalizing answers.
What changed
Quatre's collapse turns Wing Zero from a cool late-series upgrade into a warning. From this point forward, the suit is inseparable from the question of whether its pilot can remain fully human while using it.
