Wufei pilots Shenlong Gundam, later Altron, and approaches the war as a personal test of justice rather than a team assignment. He is proud, argumentative and usually convinced that everybody around him is compromising something important. Wufei calls his Gundam Nataku and throws himself into fights against opponents he considers worthy, which is why his clashes with Treize become more personal than simple enemy encounters. He can be exhausting, but the rigidity is the point. Wufei wants strength and justice to line up neatly, then keeps meeting people who force him to question whether they actually do. Unlike Quatre, he does not naturally seek companionship, and unlike Duo he does not use humor to close the distance. His growth comes from realizing that fighting alone does not automatically make a cause purer.

Wufei's final duel with Treize is not just there to give both men one last cool fight. It resolves a relationship that has been using combat to argue about justice, hierarchy and worth for most of the series.
The Breakdown
Treize's willingness to die and Wufei's need to understand what that death means give the scene a weight larger than tactics. The duel closes a philosophical thread that could only really end in direct confrontation.
