The finale tests whether Usagi's compassion exists only because her friends make her brave. She has to keep moving after the support system is gone.

The final use of the Silver Crystal defeats Metalia, but the ending does not reward Usagi with a triumphant royal restoration. Her desire is much smaller: she wants the people she loves returned and the ordinary life that the war interrupted.

Why it matters
Sailor Moon's first finale establishes the character for the next four seasons. Usagi can carry cosmic power and still measure victory by whether everyone gets to go home.

Jadeite's operations are broad because the Dark Kingdom's immediate need is broad: collect human energy for Queen Metalia. Jewelry stores, fitness schemes, radio broadcasts and other ordinary pieces of Tokyo become traps because crowds are efficient targets.

Why it matters
The small-scale beginning gives Season 1 somewhere to grow. The mythology gets more personal as the enemy learns what it is actually looking for.
Beryl turns the recovered past into another weapon
Recovering the past should reunite Serenity and Endymion. Instead, the Dark Kingdom takes Mamoru and returns him as an enemy.
That gives Beryl something more effective than another monster: somebody Usagi cannot emotionally reduce to a target.
