Yuji Kaido enters cryogenic sleep in 2009 after being diagnosed with an incurable illness and wakes twenty-two years later in a world almost completely overrun by the Blue. Everything familiar is gone, and the soldiers recovering him treat his body as something valuable long before anyone explains why. Yuji begins frightened, angry and completely unprepared for the violence around him. Joey teaches him to pilot an Armor Shrike, while Marlene becomes both his protector and the person he most often challenges about what survival has done to humanity. On Second Earth, Yuji learns that his illness is connected to the B-cells that make Sleepers important to the military program. His growing combat ability comes with increasingly dangerous psychological changes, forcing him to fight for more than simple survival.

While trekking across ruined terrain on foot, Yuji and Marlene were trapped inside a collapsing tunnel by a massive burrowing BLUE worm variant.
The Breakdown
Standard small-arms fire bounced off its segmented armor. Marlene baited the creature into a narrow choke point, allowing Yuji to wedge a high-explosive charge directly into its open mouth joint, collapsing the tunnel on the monster.

The Breakdown
Yuji, experiencing his first intense B-cell awakening, piloted an Armored Shrike into point-blank range, driving pneumatic spikes directly through the creature's primary eye socket to destroy its nerve center.

Second Earth launched a massive military offensive using Sleeper combat units to eradicate a colossal subterranean BLUE breeding nest in Siberia.
The Breakdown
Yuji led the assault in a frenzy, slaughtering thousands of BLUE units bare-handed and with mecha fire. However, the B-cell madness consumed his squad mates, turning them into un-controllable berserkers and forcing Marlene to intervene.
Episode 22 · Second Earth Command Deck · Decisive Yuji Victory
Tony Frost initiated a violent uprising on Second Earth, slaughtering station personnel and attempting to hijack the orbital defense cannon to purge non-Sleepers.
The Breakdown
Yuji confronted Tony inside the station corridors. Tony deployed enhanced B-cell reflexes, but Yuji, fighting to protect Marlene rather than out of bloodlust, out-maneuvered Tony and struck a fatal blow, ending the Sleeper revolt.
Episodes 25–26 (Series Finale) · Second Earth / Earth Surface · Earth Restoration
Second Earth attempted to wipe out all life on Earth with a orbital energy weapon after losing control of the Sleepers.
The Breakdown
Yuji integrated his awakened B-cell energy with the planet's consciousness, neutralizing Second Earth's orbital strike. Disarming the station, Yuji and Marlene returned to Earth's surface to rebuild human civilization in harmony with the planet.
