Alongside her best friend Sayuki, she comprises "Impact Blue," the undisputed fastest downhill team on the treacherous Usui Pass. While she is incredibly shy and lacks confidence in her civilian life, the moment she slips her racing gloves on, she transforms into a cold-blooded drifting prodigy who can hit a blind, high-speed mountain corner completely sideways without a single millimeter of error.

What changed
For the first time, the viewer can separate Takumi's general adaptability from the enormous advantage built by years of Akina repetition.
The famous Usui corner is part of a course Impact Blue has practiced as a pair. Mako can commit to the car while Sayuki supports the run with information and timing.
Why it matters
Takumi has to learn from their movement while the race is already happening. That is a very different problem from defending his own mountain.
