INTEGRA HELLSING

Integra Hellsing

Hellsing · Protagonist

Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing. Head of the Royal Protestant Knights and the Hellsing Organization. Commands Alucard. Aristocratic, iron-spined, runs an extralegal vampire hunting operation with the composure of someone raised specifically to do this. Lights cigars in crisis situations. The show establishes her authority over Alucard in the first episode and never backs down from it, which is exactly the correct decision. She is not the most powerful person in the room in any physical sense and she does not need to be.

2001 TV · Hellsing Leadership

Integra's authority is the organizing fact of Hellsing. Alucard is older and infinitely more dangerous, Walter is a veteran killer, and the organization exists to fight things ordinary institutions cannot acknowledge. None of that changes who gives the orders. The series makes her leadership convincing by never treating physical power as the only kind that matters.

Episode 10 · Master of Monster

Young Integra reaches Alucard while fleeing her uncle Richard and refuses to bow even after the vampire awakens. Alucard recognizes the same authority he associated with her father and turns on Richard's men instead. The flashback does not reduce their relationship to friendship or ownership. It establishes a compact both characters understand without needing to soften it.

The Valentine Brothers Destroy the Comfortable Version of Hellsing

Episodes 5–6

Before the Valentine attack, Hellsing looks like a secret organization with enough guns, intelligence and monsters to handle anything England throws at it. The assault kills that illusion along with most of its soldiers. Integra spends the rest of the series running an organization that has survived a victory it cannot afford to repeat.

The Final Enemy Is Also the State Around Them

Episodes 11–13

By the final arc, the threat is no longer just another vampire nest. Compromised orders, false SAS deployments and the declaration that Hellsing itself is a terrorist organization turn the machinery of Britain against Integra's people. The original anime's endgame works because the organization built to defend the state has to survive the state attacking it.
