Seras's transformation matters because she is turned directly by Alucard and remains herself, while victims reduced to ghouls lose that independence. The show inherits some sexualized folklore rules from the manga, but its dramatic focus is simpler: Seras is still a person after becoming undead, and the series keeps testing what she chooses to do with that fact.
